Comparison of Hcv Rna and Hcv Core Antigen in Genotype 1 Chronic Hepatitis C Patients
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Anti-HCV test is currently used in the diagnosis of hepatitis C, while hepatitis C virus ribonucleic acid (HCV RNA) is used in the determination of viral load. Recently developed hepatitis C virus core antigen (HCV Ag) test is also used in the diagnosis of hepatitis C. The aim of this study was to compare HCV Ag and quantitative HCV RNA in terms of sensitivity and specificity as well as pharmacoeconomic footprint. Patients and methods: Sixty patients with positive anti-HCV were enrolled to this study. Quantitative HCV RNA was studied by ready commercial kits (Qiagen, lower limit of <12 IU/ml). HCV Ag test was studied with microparticule chemiluminiscent immunoassay method using ready commercial kits (Architect HCV Ag, Abbott). Conclusions: HCV Ag and HCV RNA levels were measured in the sera of chronic hepatitis C patients. Quite high correlation was found between the two tests (r = 0.83). According to our results, HCV Ag test may be an alternative to quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Thus, use of HCV Ag in place of HCV RNA will be more cost-effective for countries with limited sources.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major public health problem with more than 130-180 million people infected worldwide. Several studies in different populations have reported the association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes, and HCV viral load, and genotypes. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between HLA class I and II alleles in HCV-infected patients and heal...
متن کاملDetermination of HCV Genotypes among Chronic Hepatic Patients in Ahvaz
Background and Aims: Chronic hepatitis C is one of the most important etiologies of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. Clinical condition of hepatic patients and the outcome of chemotherapy are under impact of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes. Therefore, HCV genotyping is important for prediction of success of chemotherapy and progression of liver diseases. Methods: In thi...
متن کاملQuantitative determination of hepatitis C core antigen in therapy monitoring for chronic hepatitis C.
The correlation and kinetics of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA and HCV core antigen levels in chronic hepatitis C patients treated with pegylated interferon + ribavirin were evaluated in order to envision a combined use of the two assays in therapy monitoring. HCV core antigen levels by a chemiluminescent immunoassay (Abbott ARCHITECT) and HCV-RNA levels by branched DNA (bDNA) or real-time PCR hav...
متن کاملComparison of Hepatitis C Genotypes in Plasma and Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PMBCs) in Hepatitis C-Infected Patients
Abstract Background and Aims: The Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is essentially hepatotropic but virus compartment has also been found in other important extra hepatic sites. Detection of HCV RNA in extra hepatic reservoirs such as peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) is important for determining of disease progression and effective treatment. The present study aimed to determine of differe...
متن کاملClinical utility of hepatitis C virus core antigen quantification in patients with chronic hepatitis C.
BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus (HCV) core antigen has been proposed as a surrogate marker of HCV replication. HCV core antigen detection and quantification can thus theoretically be used instead of nucleic acid testing (NAT) to diagnose infection and manage antiviral therapy, with several advantages compared to HCV RNA assays. HCV core antigen can now be easily detected and quantified by means of...

Background and objective: Human is the only host of hepatitis C virus. This virus has a positive single stranded RNA and lipoprotein envelop that has 7 confirmed genotypes. According to studies, genotypes 1a, 3a and 1b are the most common genotypes in Iran. No effective vaccine against HCV infection has been developed instead, advances in antiviral treatment using drugs that directly affect spe...
